Notions of a "fiscal-imbalance" between Ottawa and the provinces is rubbish.
The only imbalance that exists is the one between governments and taxpayers.

True, but most of us realized that way back when Harper was peddling this rubbish during the last election. It's funny how John's article doesn't bring up the fact that Harper himself created this bogus issue.
Actually Robert, the "fiscal imbalance" is a Quebec creation that has managed to rub off on the other 9 premiers and their quest for more cash.
How would the tax points work ?
Would it be something like: Healthcare Tax points-$0.50 of every $1 collected goes to healthcare, feds share 60%. Therefore $0.30 of every $1 collected is transfered for healthcare ?
I think you might find when added up, it could be much more expensive then the current system.

So what, Adam. If the premiers didn't try and squeeze more bucks out of Ottawa they'd be guilty of not doing their job. But the complaints that there's a fiscal imbalance weren't taken seriously until Harper jumped on the bandwagon during the election and used it as a major plank in his campaign.
