Since I spend some time on this blog the spam messages really get to me. I'm reluctant to activate word verification because it just slows down the comment process, and comments are good.
Any thoughts on activating word verification? Should we just carry on and ignore the spam comments?

Word verification is simply and fast.
Don't make the words too complicated though.
horny Toad
Word verification hasn't slowed down the traffic on my blog, and the annoying spam is now gone!
I resisted enabling the word verification feature, despite the promptings of Mapmaster. A few scam comments here and there were no big deal to delete. Alas, one evening we were hit with hundreds of spam comments, littered throughout our blog.
I suggest you activate the feature, as it does not slow down the comment process, but merely prevents automated attacks.
I would advise that you add that feature. It just cleans up the process and lets those that enjoy the blog continue to do so.
As a relative newbie in the blogosphere I find word verification no deterrent at all to posting comments.
I think the word verification is a bit of a headache if you don't want to hit the delete button.
