Here comes the big push for "universal child care"

Big unions are planning a rally to have institutional daycare foisted up on all of. Oh yes...it's not about union dues and public sector wages, it's for the good of the children.

"Demand care, respect and equality for our children," the SGEU says. "Join us in achieving a child care system that ensures high quality, universal care for children (up to age 12); is publicly funded and regulated to meet quality standards; provides training and resources to child care providers, and addresses the child care wage crisis by increasing wages and benefits of child care providers."

Should be an excellent way to ruin the next generation of young Canadians. Consider it the sociological equivalent of Medicare. Nice to know they are trying to drag little kids down to the lowest common denominator too.

This anti - daycare website doesn't agree that institutionalizing kids is "for the good of the children"...

you guys probably would have come out against a universal education system too. Why 'institutionalize' our children? Shouldn't parents pay for their own kids to be taught?

In many respects, I do think that Canada would reap benefits from a more diverse educational system. Allow charter schools and vouchers as a way to reward good institutions and demand reform in the bad.

And I agree with the pay your own way idea as well. Let people bear the true costs of having children, although this may be cheaper once you factor in not having to pay for everyone else under the sun.
